A Place to Write Memories of Pete

In loving memory of Past Post Commander Peter H. Meier

It is with deep sadness that American Legion Post 64 announces the passing of our longtime member and leader, Pete Meier. Pete was present from the Post’s beginning and served, in every meaningful sense, as its foundational presence.

A Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, Pete spent three years in communications, with much of his service stationed in Germany. He carried that quiet, steady professionalism with him for the rest of his life.

After returning home, Pete became integral to the Ahwatukee community as a real-estate professional for forty-eight years — a REALTOR® Emeritus — working with Presley Homes since the community’s earliest days. He built deep, personal relationships throughout Ahwatukee, rooted in trust and genuine care for his neighbors.

At Post 64, Pete held nearly every leadership position our charter allows. He handled countless behind-the-scenes responsibilities without seeking recognition, simply because he saw what was needed and addressed it. As Post Commander before and throughout the pandemic, he kept us connected by organizing outdoor membership meetings, preventing the Post from closing during the most isolating stretch of recent memory.

Pete is remembered for his calm demeanor, his warm smile, and his welcoming nature. He rarely showed frustration. He was, consistently, kind. His legacy is embedded in this Post’s foundation through every veteran he supported, every neighbor he served, and every life he quietly touched.

Sharing your memories

A remembrance page has been opened to gather memories and photographs of Pete. If you would like to honor him with a contribution, donations in his memory may be made through the Post or through Zeffy. We are grateful for every story shared.
